Program Description You need General Education credits anyway, so why not earn them in one of the most interesting and beautiful countries in Europe? You can learn about the literature, music, and history of a country that continues to influence American thought and culture.
No language skills required!
This country has inspired cultural giants such as Oscar Wilde, James Joyce, U2, Van Morrison, and The Pogues. There are many others who have offered their minds, hearts, and spirit to our American mindset. Come learn about these people and many others. The beauty of the country will inspire you, the music will hook you, and the warmth of the people will make you want to stay.
You will be able to study in four distinctly different locations - Galway (a city where the average age is around 28 years old), Cork (an interesting industrial city in the beautiful southern part of Ireland), Belfast (a part of the UK and a fascinating location for modern history, politics, and music), and Dublin (The capital city and in many ways, the face of modern Ireland).
Along the way, we will have small group, overnight excursions where you can sample the Irish culture and their people away from the cities.
Program Eligibility
2.5 GPA for undergraduates, 3.0 for graduate students
Program Dates June 21 - July 22, 2010.
Location(s) Galway, Dublin, Cork, Belfast, and surrounding attractions.
The group will fly into Shannon, Ireland, for the start of the program and fly out of Belfast at the end of the program. It isn’t necessary for you to travel with the group, but the Program Director will designate a plane to/from Baton Rouge for those folks who wish to travel together. Everyone will fly into Shannon and take a bus to Galway. If you arrive in Shannon on the day that the “program” arrives, you can hop on the bus with us. Otherwise, you will need to travel to Galway to meet us for the first day of classes (June 27). The Program Director arrange for a bus to the Belfast airport from our lodgings at the end of the program.
