LSU in Greece & Turkey

Program Description
Did you fall in love with Greek mythology when you were a child?  Have you imagined seeing the remains of ancient temples dedicated to Zeus, Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite?  Do you long to sail the deep blue sea traveled by the legendary Odysseus and the great ancient armies of Persia, Minoan Crete, Athens, and Rome?  Are you fascinated by tales of the mysterious island of Atlantis?

If so, this program will satisfy the dreams of a lifetime.  You will study the Greek origins of Western civilization by traveling to major sites on two continents, Europe and Asia, and two fabled capitols, Athens and Istanbul.  The trip will take you to mainland Greece, three beautiful Aegean islands, and coastal Turkey.  You may earn six credit hours visiting places associated with the Greek Bronze Age, the birthplace of Homer, the Golden Age of Athens, and the exploits of Alexander the Great.  Among the courses offered are two in Classical Studies that satisfy the General Education requirements.  Honors students may also earn Honors credit on the trip and apply for travel scholarships in the Honors program.  Special course arrangements, including Independent Studies, may be arranged for students who need credit hours in English or History.

Unlike other summer abroad programs, this one involves extensive travel in the Mediterranean and sojourns in 3- and 4-star hotels.  There are excursions almost every day.  All expenses for domestic travel in Greece and Turkey are included in the program cost.

Program Eligibility
2.75 gpa for undergraduates.

If you are not an LSU student, you must submit an official copy of your most recent transcript when applying. Space in this program is limited. In the event of over subscription, preference is given to regular, full time LSU students.

Qualified applicants from other institutions are especially welcome. If you are from another institution in Louisiana or are enrolled elsewhere but you are a Louisiana resident, you will be charged in-state tuition and fees. If you are an out-of-state student and do not have a nonresident fee waiver, you will be charged out-of-state tuition.

For students from other universities: If your college/university is a member of the National Student Exchange, you may be eligible for in-state tuition. Please email nse@lsu.edu for more information about the NSE program.
