Program Description
The objective of this program is to introduce students to the history of China with a special emphasis on society and culture. In particular it will explore the relationship between China’s traditional past and its current socioeconomic and cultural development; the coming together of global trends and local practices; and the revisiting of the traditional heritage to create a new distinctively Chinese identity. Above all, this program seeks to help students go beyond a “Western-centered” perspective of China’s recent historical development, to experience first-hand local socioeconomic and cultural trends, and to gain a deeper understanding of China in general.

Students who have already studied Chinese will also have the opportunityto improve their language skills by participating in a language exchange with Chinese college students. For those students who would like to begin studying the Chinese language, this program will provide the perfect opportunity to start in an full immersion environment with our beginning Chinese class.

Program Eligibility
2.5 GPA for undergraduate students.

If you are not an LSU student, you must submit an official copy of your most recent transcript when applying. Space in this program is limited. In the event of over subscription, preference is given to regular, full time LSU students.

Qualified applicants from other institutions are especially welcome. If you are from another institution in Louisiana or are enrolled elsewhere but you are a Louisiana resident, you will be charged in-state tuition and fees. If you are an out-of-state student and do not have a nonresident fee waiver, you will be charged out-of-state tuition.
