Description
China's textile, apparel, and retail industries have been developing dramatically over the last two decades. As a large portion of the textile and apparel production has been shifted to China and China became one of the largest retail markets in the world, the US-based global companies are aggressively expanding businesses to China.

This field study provides participants with travel and cultural experiences - engaging in broad academic and cultural activities such as city tours, museum visits, company visits, and entertainment events, while examining the social, historical, and economic importance of the textile/ apparel/ retail complex in world-renowned settings. Participatns have opportunities to gain new insight into the industry through interaction with designers and on-site visits to workrooms and production facilities.

- Cultural tours to the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Great Wall, and the Chinese History Museum
- Entertainment events include Chinese Gong Fu Show, Modern Acrobat Show, Beijing Opera, and Chinese Local Cuisine
- Visit to the Academy of Art and Design at Tsinghua University
Eligibility
Open to all individuals who are interested in China and/ or careers in the global textiles/ apparel industry.
Academic Credit
Undergraduate students should enroll in HUEC 3030; graduate students should enroll in HUEC 7091. Undergraduates must have a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Cost
The anticipated program cost per person is $2,980, which covers flights from New Orleans to Hong Kong, Guangzhou to Shanghai, Shanghai to Beijing, and Beijing to New Orleans; ground transportation for all scheduled activities; room and board; all breakfasts; fees for excursions; and course activities. The course registration fee is $550. In the event of under-enrollment, the cost may be subject to increase or the program may be cancelled.
