Argentina is the second largest country in South America, after Brazil. It is four times the size of Texas!  Buenos Aires is the capital and one of the biggest cities in the world with a population of over 11 million and is located on the east coast of Argentina. The climate is temperate; temperatures range from 3/10 C in winter to 33/37 C insummer.

This cosmopolitan city has many points of interest:

Plaza de Mayo (May Square): the Casa Rosada --the Government House--, and the Catedral Metropolitana (Metropolitan Cathedral).  To the north of the square are the

docks –Puerto Madero--, which have been completely recycled, and have become a new cultural and dining area.

In downtown Buenos Aires, the Obelisco, believed to be the spot the city was founded, is the intersection of 9 de Julio Av. and Corrientes Av marking the cultural heart of the city: bookstores, restaurants and theaters, including the well known Colón Opera House.

La Boca: a picturesque, traditional neighborhood of thefirst Italian immigrants. With narrow sidewalks, cobblestone streets and colonial mansions, San Telmo still preserves some features of colonial Buenos Aires. It is the place chosen by street artists and intellectuals, and full of antique shops and art galleries.

Recoleta is a sophisticated neighborhood, with beautiful European-styled residences, elegant cafes, restaurants, art galleries and museums and a traditional craft fair. It offers other places of interest such as the historical Recoleta Cemetery and the Fine Arts Museum.

Along the Rio de la Plata are the Palermo Parks with lakes and gardens and a public golf course.

Palermo Viejo, in turn, is home for the city's bohemian and creative soul, inFIAP (Foyer Internaitonal Jean Monnet) a very peculiar mixture between last century's art and avant-garde trends.

Argentina’s terrain consists of the rich Pampas in the northern half, bordering on the subtropical forests; flat to rolling plateau in the south; and the rugged Andes along the western border. This diverse geography has the Perito Moreno Glaciar in the far south, the Iguazú Falls inthe northeast on the border with Brazil, the vineyards in Cuyo to the west, and the ski resorts in the Andes: Bariloche and Las Leñas, among other areas of interest.
