NOTE: THIS SUMMER 08 PROGRAM HAS BEEN CANCELED We are excited about offering the opportunity for you to study in London during the 2008 May Intersession (May 15 – June 1). One of the most dynamic and influential world capitals, London ranks as a top choice for students seeking an abroad experience. Few cities can boast such a rich educational environment, for study in a variety of fields—the arts, politics, history, economics, and literature. The Honors College theatre course (THTR 1021) will focus on London’s world-renowned theatre scene, which will serve as a guide for introducing students to British social life, history, and culture. Although the course is offered through the Honors College, it is open to all LSU students.
The program will offer a rich and diverse schedule of activities. In addition to attending several plays (West End, National, Globe), we plan to visit such well-known sights as Trafalgar Square, St. Paul’s, Westminster Abbey, and the Tower of London. We hope to observe Parliament in session. Also included in the cost of the program is a week end trip to Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare. We’ll see one of his plays performed there. During that week end, we’ll also visit Oxford. In London we’ll be staying in the Holiday Villa Hotel, which is conveniently located near Hyde Park. Each room has a color TV with satellite channels, hair dryer, coffee/tea making facilities, and internet connectivity. Breakfast at the hotel is included. The cost for participation in the program will be approximately $2,800. That cost includes transportation from the airport to the hotel, lodging, theatre tickets, and sightseeing costs (such as admission fees to museums). The cost does not include air fare or meals other than breakfast. LSU tuition for THTR 1021, which is a three-hour course, is $353. THTR 1021 will give students both three hours of Honors credit and three hours of General Education arts credit. We hope that you will be able to participate in this exciting program. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions. Sincerely, Les Wade Ann Sumner Holmes
