How to Apply for an International Exchange Any student interested in international exchange should speak with one of our peer advisors in 106 Hatcher Hall or attend a general interest meeting. Times, places, and dates can be found on our calendar. After attending a general interest meeting or speaking with a peer advisor, the student should narrow his or her choices to 3-5 schools and call (225-578-6801) or email (studyabroad@lsu.edu) Academic Programs Abroad to make an appointment with the International Exchange Coordinator to discuss eligibility requirements. Due to the prerequisite steps to turning in an application, this appointment must be made at least two weeks before the application deadline. During the appointment, the International Exchange Coordinator will discuss curriculum requirements, program finances, and exchange availability at the schools of choice and will decide with the student which type of application is most appropriate. The student must then submit his or her application by the application deadline (January 15 for fall exchanges and August 1 for spring exchanges), and bilateral applicants will be expected to participate in an interview following submission of their application. Placement decisions are made by taking into consideration candidates’ qualifications as they relate to all students who have applied, performance during the bilateral interview (if applicable) and availability at the host schools.
