Incoming Students
Congratulations on your placement at Louisiana State University! We are excited to host you. In order to save paper, all of your materials will be sent to you through email. If you'd prefer a mailed packet, please let your LSU NSE coordinator (dhumble@lsu.edu) know.
Once you are accepted, you need to send the NSE coordinator at LSU three documents:
A filled-in Application Form
A filled-in LSU Immunization Form (no attachments, please)
An official transcript
Form more information about immunization requirement, visit the Student Health Center's Immunization Requirement page: http://appl003.lsu.edu/slas/shc.nsf/$Content/Immunization+Requirement?OpenDocument
Once you've turned these three documents in, Admissions will grant you provisional admittance so that you can apply for housing, schedule, and more. Full admittance will be granted when LSU receives your end-of-semester transcript with a 2.5 or better GPA (excepting Engineering, Mass Communications, Business, and Physics majors—those must have a 3.0 or better).
PAWS
Once Admissions has created a record for you, you will receive two emails about how to set up your PAWS account. PAWS stands for Personal Access Web Services and is your personal portal within LSU. Most of you probably have comparable systems at your home campus. The LSU GROK Knowledge Base has a comprehensive section on the navigational links in PAWS. You are strongly advised to visit it, here.
Housing
You should secure housing as soon as possible, whether you plan to live on or off campus.
On-Campus Housing
Once your PAWS account is set up and you can log in, you should apply for housing immediately. Log in, and on the left-hand side, under a purple bar that says "(Your name)'s Desktop," click "Student Services," then choose "Housing Application." Please note that there is a $150 application fee for housing. For information about housing options, visit Residential Life's website (http://appl003.lsu.edu/slas/reslifeweb.nsf/index) and choose "Housing Options: Where Will I Live?" On the left is a list of the residence options; each is a hyperlink. For housing costs, visit http://appl003.lsu.edu/slas/reslifeweb.nsf/$Content/Rates/$file/Price_List.pdf.
Off-Campus Housing
We recommend on-campus housing, if possible, since it allows you greater opportunities to benefit from campus activities and to meet your fellow students. If you decide to live off-campus, you will be responsible for locating your own housing, since Academic Programs Abroad does not assist with housing searches. You will likely be responsible for providing your own furnishings and may also be responsible for electricity, telephone service, and cable service. You should try to find lodging near campus or near a campus bus line to allow you to easily get to class.
For housing, you may visit the following websites for information on Baton Rouge apartments:

Meal Plans
Meal plans are not required, even with on-campus housing. You may choose to buy a meal plan or not, whether you live on- or off-campus. Visit LSU Dining (http://www.lsudining.com/) to explore your options.
Course Registration
You will be able to register for courses through PAWS. Since your coursework from your home university is not loaded here at LSU, you can sign yourself up only for courses that do not require prerequisites or do not have a prerequisite hold on them. Visit "How to Schedule Courses" for detailed information about the mechanics of scheduling.
If you are unable schedule a course because of prerequisites, you will have to be put into the class manually (assuming you have met the prerequisites and the course isn't full). To get into a course, you may contact the LSU NSE coordinator, who will contact the appropriate academic advisor, or you may directly contact the department that hosts the course (e.g., Math, Chemistry, etc.). Either way, provide the course and section number. You may opt to be waitlisted if a class is full.
More Information
The Office of the University Registrar issues a scheduling booklet each semester that covers everything from getting a parking tag to paying your fee bill. Access the booklet here. |
